Precal Syllabus

Pre-Calculus Honors Course Syllabus

Course Description

Pre-Calculus is the study of functions through a graphical, algebraic and numerical analysis. In addition to reviewing linear and quadratic functions, students are introduced to polynomial, rational, trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential functions. This semester-long course prepares students for College Algebra and Calculus. It serves as the fourth mathematics course for students who have already completed Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

Instructional Philosophy

This course will increase the students’ understanding of the mathematical world around them. Each day in the classroom, students will have the opportunity to expand their mathematical knowledge and apply what they have learned. Class time will be comprised of cooperative learning, teacher instruction and individual practice. Throughout the course, students will learn how to use graphing calculator technology to assist them in problem solving, explain their reasoning both verbally and in written form, and apply their knowledge to real world situations. The student is expected to be an active participant in the learning process. This includes taking notes, contributing to group discussions, seeking help from the teacher when needed, and completing practice assignments.
