Greenville County is transitioning from traditional rote memorization of assigned word lists to a more analytical approach that emphasizes understanding words through background language knowledge and language structure. This shift is designed to foster deeper literacy development and promote long-term reading and comprehension success. We will no longer be giving traditional Spelling tests. We will do vocab or phonics quizzes that will still only be worth 10% of the language arts grade.
