I am so excited to be teaching your children! I am originally from Iowa and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Iowa. During those years, I was an active member of the University of Iowa Children's Research Lab. The data collected was used and cited in several issues of Child Development, targeting temperament, discipline, and intrinsic motivation in young children.
Following college, I lived in several large Midwest cities. I opened clothing stores across the Midwest, developed company-wide training procedures, and educated numerous high school and college students. I moved to South Carolina twenty-nine years ago, where I met my husband. I began volunteering at the Children's Hospital and other organizations until I joined the Junior League of Greenville and received more focused placements. My favorite was as a clinical volunteer for children at the Center for Developmental Services (CDS), volunteering in the FACET clinic (Facial Abnormalities and Clefting Evaluation Team) with children under eight before I served on the Board of Directors for the Junior League.
After our twins were born, I began to pursue my lifelong goal of becoming an early childhood educator while continuing to log substantial volunteer hours with the Junior League and in many early childhood classrooms. I then completed the Nationally accredited Master of Arts in Teaching program at Converse College in Early Childhood Education. While teaching, I realized I wanted to continue to inspire and motivate all my students in even more ways, so I completed my Gifted and Talented Endorsement years later, in 2012. You can access some of the information I compiled at https://prezi.com/bljeu3otijbm/gifted-and-talented/or, specifically for female students, at http://prezi.com/7flkktbgje4y/a-special-population-of-gifted-students-females/. I have the bibliography and more details upon request. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement my family has continued to give through this incredible journey.
Since 2010, I have been teaching first grade, a role that is not just my job, but also my passion and my hobby. I thoroughly enjoy unlocking the reading and writing potential of 1st graders and pushing them beyond limits they never thought possible while finding ways to integrate science, math, and technology. My goals are to ignite and fan their love of learning and to create a strong family community. I believe that a supportive network is crucial for a child's education, and I am committed to fostering this community. My enthusiasm and energy are accompanied by firm and fair discipline.
I am excited to welcome volunteers who are interested in supporting our students as reading or math tutors, or who can assist with specific activities or projects. I look forward to working with you as partners in your child's education! Your involvement is invaluable, and I pledge my unconditional support. I am grateful for the support you provide both in and out of the classroom. In my spare time, I enjoy pilates, traveling, 'doing school stuff,' and spending time with my family.
