1. I grew up in Greenville, SC and graduated from Greenville High School in 2002. Yes, I was a Red Raider. At GHS, I ran cross country and track as well as playing softball and tennis. Some of my favorite classes were Marine Biology, Latin, and AP History.
2. I went to College of Charleston for 2 years before moving to Colorado. After working at a dude ranch in Buena Vista, CO, I went back to college at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I graduated from UCCS with a major in history in 2006.
3. While at UCCS, I decided to apply for graduate school programs in history. I was offered a scholarship at the University of Alabama and began shouting "Roll Tide!" at football games during the fall of 2006. I finished my MA in history in 2008 and moved back to Greenville, SC.
4. I wrote my Master's thesis on the taxicab industry in Greenville, SC in the 1950's.
5. While I was in college, I spent my summers leading backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting trips for teens out in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and other Western states.
6. After graduate school, I taught Leadership and Physical Education at Langston Charter Middle School in Greenville, SC. I also taught 7th grade Social Studies for three years at Fisher Middle School. For the next three years, I taught Social Studies at JL Mann High School. I have been a teacher at Hughes Academy since 2022.
7. I have three children, Lillian (13) and Scottie (11) and Henry Mills (7). I adopted Lillian when she was a newborn and was at the hospital in Marion, SC when she was born. My family loves to be outside. We enjoy camping, hiking, playing on the beach, and playing at the lake.Â
8. If I were not a teacher, I would be an archeologist. Or maybe a geologist. Or someone who sails around the world (is that a thing?).
9. I love interesting history facts (this one is probably obvious).
