Citizenship

COLOR GUARD

The Color Guard presents the colors at school and community events when it is not competing at sanctioned drill meets against other NJROTC units. Although a team, serving on the Color Guard is a greater opportunity to show pride in our unit while serving our community.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The MAV Navy prides itself in giving back to the community and supporting Mauldin schools in a positive way. Roadway cleanup events, greeting middle school students, hosting tours, presenting the colors, and helping where needed are simple ways cadets engage.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

As cadets advance in rank and experience, those who perform well earn a competitive opportunity to attend the Leadership Academy held each summer at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. Top-shelf cadets are thrust into a unique and challenging leadership environment to further build on what they've learned in the program. Leadership Academy is a formative and pinnacle experience in every cadet's career.

SERVICE ORIENTATION

The Mav Navy coordinates visits to the Fleet and other military-related facilities to enhance cadet understanding of and appreciation for our national security. Orientation visits give cadets an actual "hands on" experience to live in the barracks, dine in the galley, tour Navy warships, see aircraft flight operations, and gain a greater awareness of our nation's armed forces.

COLLEGE ORIENTATION

Visiting college ROTC programs and providing maximum exposure to our cadets is important to ensure they fully consider the College Pathway for success. Whether a 2-year or 4-year public, private or online school on ROTC or regular scholarship is an important consideration. JROTC has helped many cadets attend college on scholarship who previously thought it not possible.

CAREER ORIENTATION

Part of a cadet's professional development is how best they'll use the traits of good citizenship and principles of leadership once they graduate. Visiting local industry and meeting with corporate leaders helps cement the importance of the leadership skills, self-discipline, and good decision-making they're learning in JROTC.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Regular professional development luncheons are made available to select cadet leaders to network with U.S. Naval Academy Alumni and our Navy League of Upstate S.C. sponsors. Cadets are afforded a quality experience to ask questions and seek advice from retired and veteran military officers now serving in new opportunities in the Greenville area.
