My name is Martha Altman, and I am delighted to be your history teacher on Team 8-2 this year. I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University, followed by a Master’s in Education from Cambridge College. I also completed a specialization in Middle School Social Studies at Furman University. This year marks my 39th year in education and my 22nd at Blue Ridge.
Teaching at Blue Ridge has been extra special for me—not only because of the incredible students and staff, but also because my husband, Kip, taught here for many years. Over time, I’ve had the unique joy of teaching the children of some of his former students.
Outside of school, I am blessed with a big, beautiful family—three amazing daughters, two wonderful sons-in-law, and nine precious grandchildren: Gibson, Darby, Flynn, Harper, Fitz, Karis, Charlie, Annie-Claire, and WA (Wake Altman). Our oldest grandchild is now a senior in high school, and our youngest two are busy toddlers, so life is always full of energy and joy!
I love spending time with my extended family, taking spontaneous road trips with my husband (even to nowhere in particular), and finding historical artifacts and oddities to bring into the classroom. I can’t wait to share my love of history with you and make this year one to remember!
