Ponderings from the corner

My name is Denise Alexander. I am beginning my 25 th year at Fork Shoals. This is my fifth year as Literacy Specialist. I taught Kindergarten for 10 years , third grade for 9 years and one year in first grade. I graduated from Winthrop College with a master’s degree in 1990. I am certified to teach in the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education. In 2002, I earned National Board Certification and in 2012. I achieved re-certification. My husband, Andy, and I have two children. Our son is a USC graduate who works in Columbia and our daughter is a Senior at Limestone College. Along with our children we are also the "proud parents" of 3 dogs and 1 "grand" dog. There is never a dull moment around our house!

I feel very lucky to have a job that combines both my passion for working with children and adults.

As a Literacy Specialist I will :

  • provide specialized instruction directly to students to support core classroom instruction, and works collaboratively to implement a quality reading program.
  • assist with the evaluation of the literacy program and communicate the results to classroom teachers, parents, and specialized personnel.
  • act as a resource to other educators, parents, and the community.

I am truly excited to see what this year has in store for me !!
