School Counselor, Department Chair
I am looking forward to starting my 7th year as a school counselor! I received my master's in School Counseling along with my Education Specialist degree from Clemson University in 2019 and have been at League Academy ever since. I love working with students in 8th grade as they prepare for high school and their future after graduation. Be on the lookout for communication from me regarding Individual Graduation Plan Meetings, Fine Art Center details, Career Center applications, and general High School information at the beginning of the school year.
I can be reached at rterkelsen@greenville.k12.sc.us or 355-8113.
All 8th grade students will complete a student led individualized graduation plan. The purpose of the meeting is to have students start thinking about future career/college goals, start talking about future high school level classes, and share high school information. Please be on the look out for more information regarding these meetings and encourage your child to think about their future goals.
Everything printed in red is linked to websites with additional information!
If your student is interested in touring the Fine Arts Center, please review the two page document to your left by clicking on the arrow. This form must be signed and brought to the League front office by Wednesday November 5th. Please note it is the guardian/parent's responsibility to transport the child to the Fine Arts Center and to League after the tour and this tour is only for your student.
Here is the link to the Fine Arts Center as well as the link to the Application page. Applications are open October - January.
As classroom lessons are taught, they will be uploaded here for families to stay connected and informed on what students are learning from the counseling department.
Relationship Education Project
8th grade students will participate in the Relationship Education Project classroom Lesson on Tuesday December 2nd.
This lesson will help teach middle school students about healthy relationships and how to recognize relationship abuse.
This week and next all 8th grade students will recieve a lesson about conducting their Individual Graduation plan (information listed above). Lots of high school information was shared with students such as Fine Art Center information, Magnet high schools, School Choice, GPA (and how to calculate it) and requirements for graduation and college. Find the slides the students were show linked here and the worksheet they filled out that will guide out IGP meetings starting in a few weeks!
Mrs. Moody and I collaborated with iStudio teachers to go over the 6 Career pathways and learn how to research different job components. Students utilized our College and Career platform, Schoolinks to work on this assignment.
View the slides we used for the lesson here and the worksheet students completed located to your left.
