Services

Individual Counseling:

Individual counseling provides students time to discuss a particular academic/social-emotional/career concern with their counselor. As School Counselors, we are able to provide brief solution-focused counseling. We are also able to refer students to our Student Support Specialist for long-term counseling.

Group Counseling:

Personal/Social issues are often addressed during individual sessions, but there are times a group setting can help students learn to cope with the present issues and empathize with others. This setting is meant to be encouraging and supportive, offering a place to discuss hard things with students who are walking through the same experience. Parent permission is always required.

Classroom Lessons:

School counselors teach classes on  topics like goal setting, time management, healthy peer relationships, conflict resolution and so much more! Our goal is that students leave Lakeview as well rounded citizens with skills that will benefit themselves and their community.

In 6th-8th grades, students receive instruction that aligns with the state-mandated Erin's Law. For more information about this classroom lesson, please see this letter (español).

Individual Planning:

In 8th grade, students will have their initial Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conference.  This is a student focused and student led meeting in which academic progress,  high school, and postsecondary plans will be discussed among students, counselor, and parents/guardians. A letter will be sent home with details regarding your student's individual meeting date and time.

Consultation:

Our counselors consult with parents, teachers, and other educational professionals to address students’ academic, personal/social, and college/career needs. As consultants, counselors educate staff and parents on issues relevant to middle school students, meet with teachers to provide information about how best to help students experiencing academic and emotional problems, and work directly with teachers, parents, and administrators, and others to best meet the needs of the students. Consultation may take place in an individual or group conference, team meetings, staff development activities, and/or parent education workshops.

Collaboration with the community:

School counselors serve as liaisons between schools and community agencies. Businesses and community agencies play a vital role as service providers for students and their families. We partner with our school social worker, OnTrack Coordinator, CIS representatives and many others to provide holistic services for our students.
