Wade Hampton High School
Late Work Policy
To better provide consistency across the school, Wade Hampton High School will adhere to the following late work policy. Students are expected to complete and turn in assignments on time on the original due date and to complete all quizzes and tests on time. All assignments, quizzes and/or tests NOT turned in on time will be determined late.
Minor Grades
(homework and classwork)
A zero will be put in the gradebook as a placeholder until the assignment is completed and turned in.
The teacher may deduct for lateness:
Up to 20 % for assignments turned in before the unit assessment
Up to 40 % for assignments turned in after the unit assessment.
All late work must be turned in before the date determined by the grading deadlines. (Ex. end of grading period)
Example: The assignment is due on March 8. The student turns in a completed assignment on March 11. The test is on March 15. The student could earn between 90 and 100 percent of the possible points.

A Tardy consists of any time a student is late for class. A student who arrives late to school or class is tardy. All teachers will close their doors to begin instruction when the tardy bells rings. Any student who is tardy to school after 8:45 am must go to the attendance office. to obtain a pass. If a student does not attend at least half of any class; the student will be counted absent. Students that are late to school or late to a class cause major disruptions to the school day for office personnel and classroom teachers.
Tardies to school: All students are allowed three tardies to school per SEMESTER without a consequence. This allows for unusual circumstances such as an automobile accident, slow traffic, oversleeping, or flat tire. All other tardies, unless accompanied by a medical note, will be deemed unexcused. Persistent tardiness will be addressed by administration.
Students will be allowed three (3) tardies per SEMESTER.
The following are acceptable as “excused tardy”
Medical appointment (must have a note from doctor)
Court appearance (must have a note from court)
Late bus (must have a note from the attendance office)
A signed hall pass from administration, guidance, SRO, or mental health staff
The Administration reserves the right to revoke parking passes if tardies become excessive
Consequences Per Semester
First Tardy – Warning
Second Tardy – Warning
Third Tardy – Final Warning
Fourth Tardy – Lunch Detention
Fifth Tardy – After School Detention
Sixth Tardy – ISS
Seventh Tardy - ISS
Eight and Subsequent Tardies – OSS
Absence policy & Make-ups: Make-up work is to be completed within a week of return after an absence. However, students are encouraged to make up missed work within 1-2 days of their return to school. A zero will be given if students fail to makeup a test/quiz/lab within 1 week after coming back to school.
Tardy policy: Instruction starts at the bell and students will be informed that being tardy to class without a valid excuse will not be tolerated. Students should be in their seat when the tardy bell rings. If a student is tardy three times, he/she will be given a warning. Student who comes to class tardy the fourth and fifth time will receive detention. Any tardiness thereafter will receive a referral for each occurrence.
Classroom Rules: Students are expected to behave in a manner that will not disrupt the class or distract the teacher, and are expected to follow all the classroom rules and to respect the consequences when they do not. Failure to follow all school rules set down in the student handbook will result in detention, a phone call to parents, and/or a referral to the administrator.
1. Bring paper, pencil, eraser, biology binder, and textbook to class.
2. Once the tardy bell rings, get on task & follow instructions.
3. Stay on task. Work quietly and talk softly if working in groups.
4. All lab safety rules should be strictly followed.
5. Raise your hand if you need to leave your seat, need help or would like to talk.
6. Class time and activities are from bell to bell.
7. In the event of cheating or plagiarism, parents and administrators will be informed and a grade of zero will be given.
