The Robotics Team and Mechatronics teacher, Mr. Sheffield hosted 52 STEM campers for 4 days! 

The camp was a tremendous success, thanks in large part to the outstanding support of our Industry Advisory Panel and community partners.

Throughout the week, campers had the opportunity to see how STEM concepts connect directly to real careers and real innovation:

• Mr. Washington introduced students to the FIHS cleaning robots and demonstrated how automation is being used in our own school.

• Nell Berkeley from IPCO shared insights into industrial power systems and the many career opportunities within the industry.

• Matt Hill, Michelin Retreading Innovation & Engineering Manager, discussed the innovative work taking place in Michelin’s Fountain Inn Retread Division. We also enjoyed catching up with FIHS graduate Wilem Nordus, who is currently interning with Matt.

• Jeremy Fedrigon and Lila Avendano from RYOBI gave students a fascinating look at the innovative products and engineering efforts happening at RYOBI’s headquarters in Anderson.

It was an incredible week of hands-on learning, curiosity, and inspiration. More importantly, it was a wonderful example of what happens when schools and industry partners work together to make learning real for students.
