By nature of the subject, the music classroom is an active (and somewhat noisy) one! There is singing, dancing, drumming, acting, and all manner of activities that engage the mind, body, and spirit.
Students are expected to enter the classroom and walk to their assigned seat on the floor before we begin our activities. The single most important expectation of my classroom is participation. Every activity and lesson is designed to move the learning forward in some way. For example, one student may be an eager dancer and another more uncomfortable, but the process of engaging in the movement is designed to assist with some aspect of the learning. In addition, students will learn how to transition from one activity to another which is an important aspect of group work. Parents are welcome to come observe any of my music classes (including the one with their student in the room.)
