Behavior Policies

Students should adhere to all policies set forth in Riverside Middle School’s Student Handbook. The following policies relate specifically to my class.

1)    Be in the classroom at the beginning of the period and in your assigned seat, silent and organized, by the time I take attendance. Remain in your assigned seat unless instructed otherwise by me. If you need to leave class for personal reasons, ask permission and (if granted) complete an online pass.

2)    Bring all appropriate materials (e.g., pens, loose-leaf paper, Chromebook) to class and keep anything that might distract (fidget spinners, work from other classes, cellphones, etc.) out of sight. These items should not be visible in my classroom before, during, or after class. Take responsibility for the appearance of your desk and immediate area.

3)    Refrain from eating and drinking (except water) in my classroom before, during, and after class. Bring water with you, if you want it, since students will not ordinarily be sent out of the classroom to use the water fountain.

4)    Give your full attention and effort for the entire period. Your head should be up and your eyes open at all times. Sit up straight to signal your attention.

5)    If you wish to ask a question or make a comment, be certain the question or comment is serious and relevant, be patient and wait to be called on before speaking, and be ready to express your opinions sincerely and intelligently. Avoid obscene or offensive language. Also, avoid distracting noises (pencil tapping, bubble-gum popping, water-bottle crunching, etc.). Show respect for yourself, your classmates, the teacher, and the subject at all times.

*Any behavior that detracts from a safe, pleasant learning environment will be subject to the same consequences as violations of the aforementioned policies. These consequences include ineligibility for extra credit, parent contact, detention, and a disciplinary referral.
