I hold a B.A. in English from North Greenville University, and before becoming a teacher I spent more than 20 years working in management across several industries. This is my first year at Riverside Middle School, and I’m excited to help 6th graders discover their voices as writers.
I believe that everyone can learn to write well if they’re willing to take risks and try. My goal when working with students is to be supportive and encouraging, and I focus on helping students express themselves clearly and professionally so they’re prepared not just for school, but for future success in the workplace and beyond.
As you may have guessed, I love reading. I grew up reading lots of science fiction and fantasy stories, and those will always be some of my favorites, but I also enjoy realistic fiction and historical fiction. I've recently been reading some alternative history novels and I just found out about LitRPG and am fascinated by it.
Outside of the classroom, I love making things—whether it’s 3D printing, woodworking, or building LEGO sets. I've recently stumbled across the art of bookbinding and I'm hoping to dive into it next. I'm also a certified commercial drone pilot.
Above all, I want my students and their families to know that my class is about more than grammar and essays—it’s about learning how to shape raw thoughts and ideas into powerful words. I believe this skill is one of the most important tools for success in every part of life, and I’m excited to guide my students on that journey.
