COURSE OVERVIEW: Math 7 Accelerated covers the SC 7th and 8th grade state standards. The McGraw Hill Course 2 Reveal Math Accelerated Course provides the material for South Carolina Mathematics Curricululm Standards. It also gives students a broad range of information and opportunities to work in collaborative groups to study the four strands of mathematics: Data, Probability, and Statistical Reasoning (DPSR); Measurement, Geometry, and Spatial Reasoning (MGSR); Numerical Reasoning (NR); and Patterns, Algebra, and Functional Reasoning (PAFR). All curriculum materials are available to students through their Greenville County Schools’ “Backpacks”. This course prepares students for the Geometry course in 8th grade.
Materials Needed: Students should bring these items each day.
1. 3 ring binder: One that contains notebook paper and a pocket to hold papers without holes.
2. 2 Composition Notebook (one for each semester) These will be referred to as “note-takers”
3. Pencils and erasers.
4. TI-30xs Scientific Calculator –A classroom set will be available to students who do not have one, but it would be helpful for students to complete homework assignments.
5. Wired earbuds or headphones –These will be used when doing individual assignments on a computer. No wireless or Bluetooth.
6. HOMEROOM: A box of tissue and/or hand sanitizer.
RESOURCES: Students can access textbook material and ALEKS logging into their Greenville County Schools backpack. I am available for extra help. Students should schedule extra help with me a day in advance because they need a pass to attend. Riverside Middle also provides an extra help lab available each morning from 7:45-8:15 am and no pass is needed.
COMMUNICATION:
● Contact information and weekly planners will be posted on my website. You can access teacher websites from the school website.
● Assignments, class notes, and other resources pertaining to daily lessons will be posted on the Google Classroom daily.
● Contact will be made through phone calls and e-mail, as needed.
● Parents are encouraged to access students’ grades online and contact me as needed, using the information provided at the top of this page.
ABSENTEEISM: If a student is absent, he/she should check with me for any missing assignments or lessons. Weekly assignments will be posted on the board, and will be sent out via email every Monday. Students should speak with me to schedule make-up tests and complete other assignments within 5 days of the absence. Students should also check with a fellow classmate for missed notes and other important information or review Google Classroom.
Grading Policy:
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 50-59
GRADING:
As per district policy:
● 50% Major Assessments (Tests and Projects)
● 50% Minor Grades (Quizzes, classwork/homework, ALEKS)
Classroom Procedures:
● Students should enter class, read the board and follow the directions that are posted each day. Most days will start with warm-ups and going over previous nights homework.
● Students will need to ask for permission to go to the restroom and fill out the bathroom form on Google Classroom.
● Good Things will be shared on a weekly basis.
Students will turn in all work to the boxes at the front of the classroom.

Graded Assignments:
● All classwork, homework, handouts, and returned papers should be kept in the math notebook. These are excellent notes to review for unit tests and benchmark tests.
● Students are encouraged to save chapter review assignments, quizzes, etc. to prepare for the cumulative benchmark test at the end of each quarter and the final exam/benchmark test at the end of the year.
● 3 or more major grades each quarter
● 8 or more minor grades each quarter.
● All assignments started in class will have a due date. If they are not completed in class they must be finished outside of class. All work must have the required work shown.
● Homework will be assigned periodically. Most homework will consist of practice from the textbook or worksheets. Any practices assigned from the textbook should be completed on a separate sheet of paper.
● ALEKS will count as a minor grade. Grades will be based on active time spent working on ALEKS throughout the week.
● NHI in the gradebook denotes that an assignment was not handed in.
● GFA in the gradebook denotes the student's actual grade was below the grading scale of 50.
● Late work policy can be found on the school’s website.
Classroom Behavior and Expectations:
● Students should be on time to class.
● Students should be prepared for class by bringing all needed materials.
● Students should show respect to everyone.
● Students should be responsible for their learning and their behavior. Any behavior that disrupts learning will be handled according to the RMS discipline policy that is located in the student agenda.
