Hello and welcome! My name is Jennifer (Jen) Florian and this is my 5th year teaching in the Business Department at Hillcrest. I am so excited for the 2025-2026 school year!
My journey to becoming a Teacher has been an adventure and one that speaks to the idea that our path to success is not always linear. I have an Associates in Accounting from Greenville Technical College (2009) and a Bachelors in American Sign Language and minor in Education from Clemson University (2018). I will ecomplete my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in November 2025 and begin classes to pursue my Doctorate in Curriclulum and Instruction in January 2026. I've spent more than a decade working as a Bookkeeper/"Accountant" for small and home based businesses and continue to work in the Accounting/Finance field in my off time. After obtaining my degree from Clemson, I worked several years as an Interpreter for the Deaf in Public Schools here in SC. I started pursuing Certification to teach during the COVID Pandemic.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Shane, for 12 years as of August 2025. A fun fact about Shane is that he constantly gets told that he looks like Jack Black and often has people stop and take a picture with him when we're out in public!
Between the two of us, we have four children; Jace and Kaitlyn are both 25, Seth is 23 and graduated from the Special Education Program here at Hillcrest in 2023, and Abigail is 20 and is currently attending Clemson University for Wildlife and Fishery Biology after completing her Gen Eds at Greenville Technical College.
We also have two dogs (shown right) and two arrogant cats that are beyond spoiled!
Outside of school, I continue to interpret for the Deaf at church, read endlessly, organize everything in sight, and travel whenever I possibly can. I am also an active member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization that celebrates the advancement of women through educational scholarships, grants, awards, and loans. I currently serve on the South Carolina State Board, where I have the privilege of supporting chapters across the state and helping women pursue their educational dreams while fostering meaningful connections among members.
