My goal for the 2024-2025 school year is to provide a high quality education program where all students are empowered to reach their individual potential. I strive to motivate, inspire, encourage, and support students by providing a safe and loving learning environment.
Every student I serve qualifies for special services under one of the following categories: SLD (Specific Learning Disability), Autism, ED (Emotional Disability), or OHI (Other Health Impairment). These students receive specialized support in math, reading, writing, and/or behavior skills.
Each student has an IEP (Individualized Education Program) that lays out goals and how we will achieve them. We hold annual meetings to update goals and track the progress of students. IEP goals are based on individual student needs.
In the resource classroom, we focus on the following concepts:
Reading- decoding skills, sight word vocabulary, phonics instruction, main idea, answering comprehension questions, making inferences, sequence of events, and cause and effect. We will be using the Reading Horizons curriculum.
Math- number identification, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, word problems, multi-step problems, telling time, counting money, and place value. We will be using the Bridges Math Intervention curriculum.
Writing- writing complete sentences, correct punctuation and capitalization, correct letter formation, correct subject/verb agreement, and proper paragraph format. Most of our writing will be included through the Reading Horizons program.Â
Behavior- regulating emotions, interacting with peers, motivation, and remaining on task. We will be utilizing the Zones of Regulation Curriculum to help students understand their emotions and how to handle them correctly.
