Mission and Goal of RTI classes

Lake Forest Elementary School follows the Baldrige methods of quality improvement used by many schools and businesses. One of the aspects of this program is having children create a goal for their year. Giving children this responsibility helps them have an incentive to reach the goal. Each child is graphing how many words per minute they can read. Please look at your child's "Reading Folder" to see your child's progress toward his reading fluency goal.

This is a goal that was written by my class:

The Mission of Mrs. Conard’s Reading Class

We come to Mrs. Conard's class to learn how to read. We need to be able to decode words and understand what we are reading. We need to learn how to read so we can learn about our world and also to enjoy many interesting stories. We also need to be able to read in order to get a good job one day!

I have a library of leveled books to share with my students. It is important for them to be reading "the just right book" that is not too challenging for their r eading ability. Please look for these books to come home in your child's bookbag.

I also have a "children's choice" library where they can choose books that they are interested in even if it is not their choice.
