Course Description: This course is a program of mathematical studies focusing on the development of the student's ability to understand and apply the study of functions and advanced mathematics concepts to solve problems. The course will include a study of polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Emphasis is placed on active participation through modeling, technology lab activities, group activities, and communication in mathematics. Students are expected to use technology, including graphing calculators, computers, and data-gathering equipment throughout the course. The SCCCR mathematical process standards apply throughout the course. PREREQUISITE: Algebra 2

Required Materials:
3-ring notebook
notebook paper
Chromebook (fully charged each day)
pencils
graphing calculator (Texas Instruments TI-84 recommended)
Classroom Expectations:
Be on time. Students should be seated and ready to work when the bell begins to ring.
Be prepared. Come to class daily with all required materials, including charged Chromebook and completed homework.
Be respectful. Students are expected to act respectfully to other students and the teacher. This includes refraining from disruptive behavior, raising your hand when you have questions, remaining seated in your assigned seat and following directions from the teacher. Cell phones should be neither seen nor heard during class. Students should also keep the classroom neat and clean.
Be involved in class. Your success in this class depends heavily on your participation and involvement in classroom activities. Students should refrain from actions that prevent active participation in class, such as sleeping and doing work from other classes.
Consequences:
First offense, verbal warning.
Second offense, parent contact.
Third offense, detention.
Thereafter, office referral.
Assessment and Grading Policy:
60% Major Grades (Including unit tests and major projects) approximately 3-5 per nine weeks
30% Minor Grades (Including quizzes and other activities) approximately 5-10 per nine weeks
10% Homework/Classwork Grades (Including worksheets, practice problems, and online problem sets) approximately 7-15 per nine weeks
Extra Credit – Extra credit assignments may be offered at various times throughout the year. All students will be given the same opportunities for extra credit. Please do not ask for individual extra credit to help your grade. It is recommended that students take advantage of all extra credit opportunities when they are offered, rather than waiting until your grade is in jeopardy.
