What is a school psychologist?

Prior to my university studies, I had no idea what a school psychologist was or what they did, and I'm sure many of you are in the same boat. In Greenville County Schools, school psychologists are primarily responsible for completing testing to determine a student's need / eligibility for special education services. Additionally, the school psychologist may consult with teachers regarding individual academic or behavioral concerns, lead individual or group counseling interactions, suggest and monitor individualized intervention strategies, or participate in the implementation of school-wide change.

About Me

My name is Javan (like Raven, but with a J) Truax (True-Axe), and I am the school psychologist at both Alexander Elementary School and Ralph Chandler Middle School. I grew up in the Greenville area and attended Greenville County Schools for K-12. I graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2019 and am currently completing my internship here to wrap up my graduate program at Western Carolina University.
