High School Transition Information

Hughes Academy will have their 8th grade Individual Graduation Plan meetings from October 26th to November 12th (Brick & Mortar)

Virtual Student IGP's will start in December. More information will come soon.

In 2005, the State of South Carolina passed The Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA). The EEDA requires that by the end of the eighth grade, all students in consultation with their parents (or guardian), must have an Individual Graduation Plan or IGP completed before next year’s enrollment. IGP conferences are held each year throughout high school, giving students the opportunity to update their information annually. 

The purpose of the IGP is to give students the opportunity to discuss their career inventories and choose a career cluster of interest before going into high school. Students start this process in the 6th and 7th grade by completing career interest inventories and participating in various career activities. This culminates with students selecting a career cluster during their 8th grade year. By choosing a career cluster in the 8th grade, students will be better informed about choosing electives in high school that will better prepare them for their chosen career beyond graduation – on the job or in college.

Due to social distancing requirements in schools, each Magnet Academy will offer a Magnet Open House video posted to their school’s main website. These videos will explain the magnet application process as well as provide more information about the school’s program.  These pre-recorded videos or live videos will release on:
