Mrs. Bassimer, Media Specialist

I have been in education for over 20 years. Most of my years were spent in the classroom. My teaching involved first grade and prekindergarten classroom teacher and teaching a social emotional curriculum for several years as well. Children’s books have been a love of mine–especially sharing them with children. I have been the school librarian at Hollis Academy since 2023.

I loved the book, “A Tree is Nice” when I was a little girl.
Two books made me cry: “Old Yeller,” and “Sounder.”
I have two children—a daughter and a son. My daughter, Amy lives in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area and she has 4 young children. My son, Michael lives in Raleigh, NC. He is a computer technician.
I lived in Southern Illinois my entire life in the same Illinois county until I moved to South Carolina over 5 years ago. I love making South Carolina my home—absolutely love SC!
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, hiking in the mountains, singing, and swimming,
I love adventure. I went zip lining and kayaking for the first time about 5 years ago. I have not been white water rafting yet, but I would love to if I had the opportunity.

Hey Everyone!

My name is Eugenia Lignos or Ms. Lignos.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me!

I am originally from the New York & New Jersey area and that is where I grew up and went to school. However, I am of Greek descent and I was born in Athens, Greece. Hence why my first language is Greek. Where I come from is a huge part of me and has shaped me into the person I am today. I am a very family oriented person and I value my family and friends more than anything. If I am not working, I am usually spending quality time with my family and those closest to me. I also highly enjoy sports like baseball and soccer. My favorite teams are the New York Yankees and FC Barcelona. I also love to be in nature whenever it is feasible! I enjoy scenic drives in my Jeep and also scenic hikes & walks. I also love to mountain bike & kayak in the summers. South Carolina is the perfect place to do these things as it has beautiful mountains and lakes! It is one of my favorite things about living here! I also really enjoy cooking. Greek food but also foods of all cultures. I also love to try new foods with my siblings as we are all extremely close knit! But really, I just love to immerse myself in everything that can help me grow and learn more. I am extremely passionate about helping others and learning more. It explains why my studies have always been centered around Psychology and my hope and future plan consists of becoming a Psychologist and working with younger children. It is my absolute pleasure to work here at Hollis Academy in the Media Center. I sincerely love working with Technology and it really fascinates me but I also love reading books too! Books helped me learn English growing up in a Greek speaking household so I owe a lot to books! I enjoy working with children and helping them every single day in any way I can. Whether that is with technology or books! I am a firm believer that providing children with a level of comfort and support in school will motivate and give them the tools they need to succeed in their education and advance in life!
