Hello! My name is Beckie Henseler and I am so excited to be a part of the Firebirds Family and the Red Learning Community at Fisher Middle School. I will be teaching ELA for the the 2025-26 school year. This will be my second year at Fisher. Previously I taught 4th grade at Rudolph Gordon School for 5 years, which includes a virtual year during Covid. It was a challenge but it enhanced my technology skillset. I decided to move to middle school because I love this age group and now I can focus on one of my 2 favorite subjects (social studies is the other). I love to read and hope to instill that love in your children!
A little about my background...I graduated from the University of Delaware (yes I am a Yankee!!) in 1999, with a Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition and a minor in Biology. My plan was to go to Veterinary School but life happened and I became a mom of three fabulous kids. After my role as "domestic engineer" for 11 years, I decided to pursue a masters in elementary education. I found my passion for teaching while being in the classroom as a substitute teacher. In 2018, I graduated from Converse College with a Master's at Teaching in Elementary Education, grades 2-6. In fall of 2023, I became certified at the middle level for social studies and plan to complete my ELA certification as well.
I met my wonderful husband Mark on the sidelines of the CESA soccer fields when our daughters played on the same team. We have been married for 5 years and together we have a blended family of 5 kids! My son Jack attended Fisher and is now a senior at York college In Pennsylvania. He is a starter on the wresting team and is majoring in Exercise Science. My oldest daughter Abbie is a Freshman at USC and is majoring in communications. My other daughter Delaney is a junior at J.L. Mann. My stepson Derek will be starting Midland Technical School in Columbia to pursuse his passion for auto mechanics, and his sister Abbey is a sophomore at Riverside High.
We also have 3 fur babies - Murphy and Bailey (Golden Retrievers) and Nacho (a cat who sometimes graces us with his presence).
In my free time I enjoy running (I have done 4 half marathons this year), long walks with the dogs, going to concerts, reading, cooking, refinishing furniture, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, tennis, pickle ball, traveling, relaxing at the beach and spending time with friends and family.
I am passionate about reading and often have multiple books going at the same time.
I believe that it is my responsibility to create a stimulating classroom environment where every child is able to grow mentally, emotionally, and socially while feeling safe, respected, and valued. I have high expectations for my students and will guide them in successfully achieving my goals and theirs. It is my role as an educator to be committed to every learner and give them the tools they need to rise to their full potential. Most importantly, I want my students to be excited about learning and look forward coming to school every day!
