My name is Dr. Alison Helms. I am thrilled to be joining Northwest Middle School as a 6th grade science teacher this year.
I’m originally from Massachusetts. There I attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst earning my bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Then I came south to attend Georgia Institute of Technology where I earned my doctorate in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
I bring a wide range of teaching experience, having taught 6th and 8th grade science, high school chemistry, and even college-level engineering courses. My passion lies in making science exciting and accessible for students. I love helping them engage deeply with the material while building critical thinking skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
We moved to Travelers Rest in 2019 and absolutely love it here. When I’m not in the classroom, you can usually find me cheering on my boys at the ball field or running along the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
