EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & MY CLASSROOM
Welcome to Freshman Math! I'm so excited to have you in my class!! My name is Ms. Hannah Thomas, and this is my fourth year officially working at Wade Hampton High School. I graduated from Furman University where I received a BS in Mathematics. Despite the challenge of being a mathematics major in college, I do genuinely enjoy completing math problems, and I want to share that enthusiasm with you, helping you see the various wonders of the (at times) difficult subject!
There are two main ways that I attempt to bring a unique means of exploring math in the classroom. They are by 1) bringing a brand new math magic trick to our class at the beginning of each week and 2) by asking challenging but interesting questions about mathematical concepts. I believe that math is best learned the same way it was invented, through the exploration of ideas and by persisting through the struggle. In my classroom, you can expect to be a leader of your own education and to participate in discussions about math. One of my biggest goals is that you will never be discouraged from making mistakes or doing a problem completely differently from me. We all think about math a little differently and I am most concerned about what makes the most sense to you.
OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Outside of school, I am the head JV volleyball coach here at Wade Hampton, and I write, direct, and produce movies.
Some other random fun facts about me:
1) I just directed and edited a movie. We're having the movie premiere in August! Yay!! I'm both excited and nervous.
2) I drive a red convertible mustang.
3) I used to be a YouTuber in college. My most successful YouTube video reached over 22,000 views.
4) In college, I took a semester long math class to Disney World. Half the time we did math....
....The other half we rode rollercoasters. :)
5) For a math project in Disney World, I rode Expedition Everest 11 times in a row.
6) I am NOT related to a famous execute producer in Hollywood. Don't get that one wrong on the first day of school ;)
