Welcome to 5th grade at Simpsonville Elementary School. My name is Jodi Hackett and although this is my second year at SES, it is my 32nd year teaching. I have taught 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th and 8th grade Math. I returned to Elementary where I first began my career. I have taught in Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina. I have been teaching middle school in many different formats, but mainly math, since 1999. In fact, I taught my own daughters when they were in 6th grade.
My husband, Kevin, and I have been married for 37 years and reside in Fountain Inn. Kevin has been a pastor, chaplain and bible teacher and is now a project manager for a company in Spartanburg. Our oldest daughter, Nicole, and her husband, Blake, live in Austin, Texas. Nicole, a former teacher, works for the Texas Department of Transportation. Blake works at the University of Texas in advancement and is an active member of the Austin Symphony on the viola. On September 1st of 2023, they made us grandparents for the first time . They have a daughter named Caroline. Our youngest daughter, Alyssa, and her husband, Vince, moved to Greer four years ago. Vince is a graphic designer employed by MLB. Alyssa had been teaching middle school math in Spartanburg, but she had our first grandson, Anthony, last September. She is at home and works part time at Mathnasium on Woodruff Road.
I love to read, grow flowers and plants, and spend time with family. We have two dogs that are part of our family, Mollie (Havanese) and Gracie (Shih Tzu). I have Celiac Disease, so I do not eat anything with gluten. I have managed this for over thirty years, so I consider myself an expert. 😀The kids will notice I will always bring my own food and I do enjoy copious amounts of coffee and water.
I am looking forward to this year and I am so excited for your children to be part of my family for the school day. I do have an Amazon wish list.
Some of you asked me at Meet the Teacher to let you know if we needed anything for our classroom. There are some things that are not on the wish lists. We need a class charging system to charge the Chrome books, new small whiteboards to use at the desks, hand soap without fragrance, paper towels, and magic erasers to use to clean the tables.
