Hi! My name is Amy Grumbles. I am a graduate of Clemson University in Elementary Education. I later graduated with a Master's Degree in Reading in 2006 from Nova Southeastern University. This is my twenty fourth year of teaching and last year I learned something new everyday!! I am married to a wonderful man, Marcus Grumbles, and we have two beautiful children. Lily is in her Masters year in college to become a teacher. Austin is married and serves as an officer in the USMC. We have two cute pups named Sophie and Kasey!
My philosophy is that each student is capable of being successful in the classroom. Not every student will be successful in every subject, but each student can and should be successful in some aspect. Children must be taught to focus in on their talents, but they must also strive for improvement in their areas of difficulty. It is my responsibility as a classroom teacher to help students discover and enhance their strengths, as well to aid them in improving their areas of weakness. Once a child feels successful, he/she is more likely to have the confidence needed to attempt success in other areas. If a child constantly feels like a failure, he/she will eventually quit trying in every area. As a teacher, I should consistently be an encourager to each beautiful child that is placed in my care. Also, a child should feel safe in their classroom environment. If students feel threatened, they will not participate in classroom activities and therefore will not acquire the education they need to be successful. I try to always be an advocate and a mediator for my students. By providing students with a safe classroom environment and helping them to feel successful, I believe I will help students become lifelong learners that are eager to continue their education.
Students are responsible for the choices that they make in the classroom and out. Students need to learn early in life that when the make bad choices, they must be prepared to accept the consequences that might follow. Teachers may be a role model, but students must learn that the choice is ultimately their own.
Students learn at different paces and in different ways because they are all unique. A classroom teacher should present information in a variety of ways to ensure that each student will grasp the information. Teachers must work with students to uncover their unique learning styles and to maintain a high level of interest/enthusiasm of all material taught.
As a professional educator, I must be prepared to acquire many roles. A teacher should be an encourager, a listener, a mother, a friend, an advocate, and a nurse. The most important position I must fulfill as a teacher, is that of a role model. Teachers must be very careful because a child will absorb every action and every word that their teacher produces.
