Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. Throughout the semester they are challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design products.
Design Process
Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study virus transmission. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, investigate how to measure and interpret vital signs, and learn how the systems of the human body work together to maintain health.
Today’s students have grown up in an age of “green” choices. In this unit, students learn how to apply this concept to the fields of architecture and construction by exploring dimensioning, measuring, and architectural sustainability as they design affordable housing units using Autodesk’s® 3D architectural design software.
Students will have an opportunity to explore job tasks and career opportunities in each of the 16 clusters while identifying pathways from high school to postsecondary education and the workplace. Students will learn skills needed for success in college and careers with relevance to academic standards.
App Creator is a class where kids get to team up and learn all about making awesome apps! They'll learn pair programming, using the MIT App Inventor tool while designing their own app graphics, do event-driven programming, figure out debugging (finding and fixing mistakes), and create amazing algorithms using things like variables and conditional logic.
But here's the best part—they'll get to make impressive biomedical science apps and interactive games by using all the cool things they've learned, like making the apps interesting with user-friendly features, adding pictures and sounds, and making everything move around with animations. So, it's not just learning; it's like creating your own world of tech fun!
This class is all about getting the hang of electricity and electronics in a fun, hands-on way. You'll dig into how electricity works, what atoms do, and how sensors pick up info. You'll also learn how to build simple circuits and see how electricity affects our everyday lives.
