FOOTBALL ENDS SEASON WITH A PAIR OF LOSSES

It was a tough close to the season for Fountain Inn football as both the C and D-team ended with a loss. On Tuesday the D-team lost a hard fought defensive struggle vs Riverside. With the score tied 0-0 at halftime, Riverside mounted a drive to open the 3rd quarter and grab an 8-0 lead. The Fury responded instantly on a long touchdown catch and run by Jakari Wilson, but the failed 2-pt conversion turned out to be the difference in the game. Fountain Inn got deep into Warrior territory late, but turned the ball over on downs to fall 8-6.

On Thursday the C-team traveled to Mauldin to close out its season. It was a tough night as the Fury fell behind 14-0 early. The defense settled in, but the offense struggled to move the ball all night and Mauldin held on for the win.

C-TEAM NOTCHES FIRST WIN WITH COMEBACK OVER CRESCENT

Fountain Inn went on the road to face Crescent on Thursday. It was a defensive battle early as the Fury and Tigers exchanged a series of punts in the first quarter. Crescent broke through in the second to score and take an 8-0 lead. Caden Carnes took the ensuing kickoff, got the sideline and nearly punched it in before being tackled at the one yard line. One play later Sean Smith would score, but the failed 2-point try left the Fury trailing 8-6 at the half.

The third quarter played out much like the first, with both defenses controlling the action. Midway through the fourth, Fountain Inn finally mounted a drive and got into scoring position. After a couple negative runs, Sean Smith dropped back and hot Charles Salley on the quick slant for a 12-8 lead with just over 3 minutes of game time left. Crescent would heave a prayer on 4th down which Zach Madden intercepted at the one yard line. A bobbled exchange led to a safety which cut the Fury lead to 12-10. With starting kicker Cru Hall out injured earlier in the game, Caden Carnes stepped in an bombed a kick deep down field and then he raced down and made the tackle around midfield. Crescent moved into a position to try a Hail Mary, but again Carnes stepped up and picked off the pass with 2.2 seconds remaining to seal the victory. The win was the first by the Fountain Inn High School team, making it the first in school history!

Fountain Inn will wrap up their season on the road at Mauldin on Thursday, October 28th.

D-TEAM TAKES DOWN BLUE RIDGE

Fountain Inn took the opening kick and marched right down the field ending with Jack Criswell connecting with Lucas Stohs in the back of the endzone for a 6-0 lead. After a defensive stop, the Fury drove deep into Tiger territory but were stopped on downs. The Fury D kept Blue Ridge pinned deep, forcing a punt that Jakari Wilson returned to give Fountain Inn a 12-0 lead. The rest of the game was a defensive struggle with lots of turnover on downs.

The Fury D-team will close out their season at home on October 26th vs Riverside.

FURY FALLS IN INAUGURAL HOMECOMING GAME

The "44" was packed and anticipation was high as Fountain Inn held their first ever Homecoming game at Fury Field. D-team opened the night vs a very good Greenville team and quickly found themselves in the hole as turnovers plagued the Fury. BJ Cureton was one of the few bright spots of the night as he scored a pair of touchdowns, including a 70-yd kick-off return as the D-team fell.

The C-team followed with not much better results. Seth Carter hauled in an interception and returned it for the Fury's lone touchdown. Cru Hall added a field goal as Fountain Inn fell 49-9 to Southside Christian.

In between games Jackson Espinal and Reed Modrak were named Mister and Miss Fountain Inn Freshman.

FURY C-TEAM FALLS at CHRIST CHURCH

Failure to finish will be the takeaway for the Fury C-team football team. It was a wet and soggy night at Christ Church as teams exchanged punts for most of the first half as both offenses struggled to move the ball. The Cavaliers broke through with a score in the 2nd quarter to take an 8-0 lead. Fountain Inn had to regroup at the half and they would have to do so with out Cru Hall and Zach Madden, safety/running back, who both left the game with injuries. Despite the losses, the Fury had chances in the second half. Caden Carnes who shares time at RB and S with Hall and Madden came up with a big interception and return that set the Fury up inside the Cavalier 20. Fountain Inn got it to 1st and goal, but came up short. The Fury defense did their part, giving the offense great field position after a solid return by Terry Cunningham, but again the offense failed on downs. Fountain Inn's inability to finish those drives was the difference in the game as Christ Church would tack on a late score to win 14-0.

The Fury will regroup and return home for a 7:00 pm kick vs Southside Christian on October 14. It's Homecoming. Community tailgate. And the D-team plays. It will be a wild night in "The 44"!

FURY D-TEAM HANGS ON TO DEFEAT THE GENERALS

The Fountain Inn Fury D-team traveled to Wade Hampton to face the Generals on Tuesday night. It was a defensive battle early which saw the Fury D scoop and score the only points of the first half. It also saw the Generals make a goal line stand to keep the score 6-0 at the half.

In the 3rd quarter the Fury offense got rolling as Jakari Wilson broke off a 50-yd TD run to push the lead to 12-0. BJ Cureton ended the Generals first drive of the second half with an interception. Fountain Inn closed the quarter sitting 1st and goal after Jack Criswell connected on a deep pass with Levi Keller. Ethan Rhodes opened the final frame by punching in the touchdown and extending the Fury lead to 18.

In the 4th, the Generals came storming back, scoring on a deep pass and converting the 2-pt play. WHHS followed by recovering an onside kick and cutting the lead to 18-16 with just under five minutes to play. The Generals nearly recovered a second onside kick, but were flagged for illegal touching as they did not allow the ball to travel 10 yards. WHHS mounted one last attempt to win the game, but Ben Carlson ended their hopes with an interception near the goal line. Wilson and the offense converted a 3rd and 5 and the Fury were able to run out the clock and preserve the 18-16 victory.

The D-team will be back on the road Tuesday at Mauldin.

FURY C-TEAM LOSES AT HILLCREST

Much like the D-team on Tuesday night, the Fountain Inn C-team found themselves in a defensive struggle early. Facing neighboring Hillcrest, the Fury and Rams exchanged punts for most of the first half. Finally the Rams broke through to take a 6-0 lead with only 10.8 seconds left in the half. Coming out of break, Hillcrest opened with a long kick-off return and a quick strike on second down to push the lead to 12-0. Fury drove into Ram territory before stalling out, setting the Rams up with their only long drive of the game to grab an 18 point lead. Again the Fury pushed into Ram territory, but stalled at the 1-yard line. Jake Hilliard got the Fury on the scoreboard with a safety on 2nd down, but the Fury were unable to add any more points before time expired.

Fountain Inn will be off a week before traveling to Christ Church on October 7th.

FURY D-TEAM FALLS ON THE ROAD TO HILLCREST

On a rain and mud soaked field, the Fountain Inn Fury faced off with the Hillcrest Rams. Both teams struggled to move the ball early. Ben Carlson made a couple grabs from Jack Criswell along the sideline to help the offense get rolling, but the drive stalled. After a scoreless first quarter, the Rams drove deep into Fury territory but the Fountain Inn defense stood strong on a couple fourth down stops in the 2nd quarter. Levi Keller came up with a big interception in the quarter, but a late Fury turnover set the Rams up to take an 8-0 lead with only 1.7 seconds left in the half.

Hillcrest opening possession of the second half ate up over five minutes of clock and pushed the Rams lead to 14-0. The Fury offense got some power running from Ethan Rhodes in the fourth quarter, but was unable to sustain any scoring drive. The Fury D-team (1-1) will be on the road next week at Wade Hampton.

FURY C-TEAM FALLS TO ST JOSEPH'S

It was a tough night for the Fountain Inn Fury C-team as they fell to St Joe's 27-3. The Knights broke a long touchdown run on their opening possession and never looked back, building a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Fury offense struggled to move the ball, but in the 2nd quarter they got a boost from the defense as Zach Madden came up with an interception that gave Fountain Inn the ball on the St Joe's half of the field. Cru Hall paid off that drive nailing a 22 yard FG. On the next St Joe possession the Fury D forced a punt. Jackson Njoku split the Knights line right up the middle and blocked the kick, but the Fury were unable to add points before the half.

St Joe's added a pair of scores in the second half and cruised to a 27-3 victory. The Fury will be on the road for the first time this season as they travel to Hillcrest on Thursday night.

FURY D-TEAM DEFEATS JL MANN TO OPEN SEASON

What started as a defensive struggle, finished with offensive fireworks. The Fountain Inn Fury D-team hosted JL Mann to open their 2021 campaign. Through a quarter and a half, both offenses struggled to move the ball and the teams exchanged a series of punts. In the 2nd quarter, the Fury defense helped set up excellent field position. QB Jack Criswell and the pass game got in rhythm as Criswell found Ben Carlson on consecutive throws to move the ball inside the 15 yard line. With a defender in his face, Criswell found Lucas Stohs in the corner of the endzone to give the Fury a 6-0 lead going to the half.

The 3rd quarter started much the same way the 1st did, dominated by defense. Levi Keller ended a promising Mann drive with and interception, but the Fury failed to capitalize. Late in the quarter, the Patriots finally got their offense rolling and the quarter ended with a touchdown saving tackle by Jakari Wilson, setting up 3rd and goal from the 1-yard line to open the final stanza.

Mann tied the game on the first play of the 4th quarter. Jakari Wilson got a big return on the ensuing kick-off to help jumpstart the offense. Criswell connected with Stohs on a key 4th down play, leading to a Criswell to Levi Keller touchdown throw. Mason Guion added the 2-pt conversion on a flat route from Criswell. Mann answered immediately with a kick-off return for a touchdown and a successful 2-pt try with 4:45 to play in the game. Criswell and the Fury offense answered two plays later with a 60+ yard bomb to Levi Keller again, pushing the lead back to 20-14. Mann drove near midfield, before a poor handoff exchange led to a fumble recovered by the Fury's BJ Cureton. Trying to run down the clock, Fury were hit with a penalty and a big loss of yards, setting up 3rd and 30+. Ethan Rhodes delivered a big run to make it 4th and 11. Rather than kick, Criswell dropped back and heaved a ball down the middle of the field that Lucas Stohs laid out for drifting backwards to secure the first down and the victory.

The Fury will be on the road next Tuesday at Hillcrest. The C-team will be at home on Thursday vs St. Joseph's at 6:00 pm.

FURY HOST WOODRUFF IN HOME OPENER AT FURY FIELD

For the first time since the 1950's, Fountain Inn hosted a home high school football game. The Fury 9th grade team welcomed the Woodruff Wolverines JV squad to Fury Field on September 9, 2021.

The Fury opened with the ball and put together a nice drive behind the running of Zacchaeus Madden before the drive stalled out because of penalties. Penalty yards were the story of the first half as Woodruff built a 14-0 lead largely due to mistakes and penalties by the overanxious Fury.

Fountain Inn used the half to settle down. The Fury Band performed their first routine to legendary artist Queen and the Fury defense rolled out a "We Will Rock You" approach forcing a three-and-out on the opening possession of the half and giving the offense great field position. Again Madden and Caden Carnes powered the run game down the field and QB Sean Smith punched in the first Fury touchdown to cut the lead to 14-6 after a blocked PAT.

An interception by Corbin Giles again put the Fury offense on the move. Giles and Cru Hall reeled in a couple nice throws by Smith to give the Fury a first and goal from the 8-yard line. Unfortunately the drive stalled after Smith just missed Will Knight in the corner of the endzone on 4th down.

Again the defense responded with a big strip fumble and recovery as the Wolverines were crossing midfield. Again inside the redzone, the Fury threatened before a questionable fumble ended their drive. The Fury defense forced a punt with under a minute left, but the game ended on a Woodruff strip sack and fumble recovery.

The Fury fell 14-6 in their debut. The D-team will take the field on Tuesday as they host JL Mann at 5:30. The C-team will be back in action at Fury Field on Thursday vs St Joseph's.
