Welcome to your ESOL- Website. The ESOL Newcomer Program is a double block of instruction in English. One block focuses on reading, writing, and rapid acquisition of vocabulary and grammar. The other block focuses on academic language to prepare students for social studies and science. Students generally remain in the program for one or two semesters.
Berea High School met the Rosetta Stone Challenge for the month of March with 72 active learners with an average of 4 hours per learner. Also, Berea High has the high school learner with the highest amount of usage: Hazel Martinez with 14.7 hours of usage.

All South Carolina schools will switch to e-learning from Wednesday, March 18, 2020 to March 31, 2020. Please use this link to access all your assignments and materials for the next two weeks.

March LT(s): initiate and take part in conversations, participate in classroom discussions, and make short oral presentations, with teacher guidance, using a variety of subject-specific words and expressions;
communicate orally, using a variety of the conventions of English grammar with some accuracy;
encourage the use of phrases which express attitude and emotion in writing assignments; and
develop critical vocabulary to sustain a conversation, follow classroom directions, and acquire basic literacy in their second language and have the basic understandings needed to apply this knowledge to their lives as citizens.
Advanced (2nd yer students+) LT-convey ideas using the writing process ( brainstorm ideas, structure arguments, and students edit and proofread their own essays).
LT-produce writing with a higher occurrence of lexical variation, complex sentences and appropriate use of passive structures.
*ACCESS 2.0 Testing Window opens January 27-March 13th
During this period, all ESOL teachers will be testing periodically throughout the testing window.
