My name is Keith Ray and I am in my seventh year as an English teacher for Greenville County Schools..
A native of West Virginia, I have been a resident of the Upstate of South Carolina since 1989. I served as a United Methodist pastor for 28 years. Part of that time included working as Associate Chaplain and Assistant Professor of Religion at Furman University. In addition, I have taught in graduate schools for many years, primarily working with students on writing doctoral theses.
I have a B.A. from Marshall University in Huntington, WV, a M.Div. from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Northern Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. I also studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
I chose to retire early and pursue a career as a public school teacher. I have been active in public education as a parent and a community leader. I am the father of three adult children and they all attended public schools in both Greenville and Pickens counties. I also work to advocate for public schools as a community member and I had the opportunity to serve on the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees, 2004 - 2008.
I love to travel, especially in Latin America. A few years ago I traveled to Antigua, Guatemala, where I studied Spanish for two weeks. (That's me with my teacher in the photo above!)
