What is Intervention?
What is Reading Intervention?
Intervention is a small group, supplementary intervention designed for children who find reading and writing difficult. After screening everyone in the grade level, these children are selected because they are behind in their literacy skills. The goal of the intervention is to bring the children to grade level achievement. By engaging in intensively supportive lessons, that last 30 minutes each day, young readers have the opportunity to expand their reading and writing abilities. With the support of instruction, they stretch themselves to read more complex text with accuracy, fluency, and comprehension and to write more complex messages. With these goals in mind, children are effectively engaging in the reading and writing process every day. It is important to note, that the intervention support is designed to supplement, not a substitute for, the small group instruction children receive in their classroom.
Now, you may be wondering what criteria is used to identify students that need additional reading assistance. With the introduction of FastBridge, the program Greenville County Schools use to screen children, please check back for grade level specific details.
