THE BIG PICTURE
In this class, you will learn everything from Algebra II CP—and then we will go even further. We will explore the Binomial Theorem, work with complex numbers, graph rational functions, solve logarithmic equations, tackle synthetic division of polynomials, and dig into function composition and inverses.
We will connect all of these topics to the bigger picture so you can see how math works together as a useful, logical system (and not just a bunch of random formulas).
To be here, you have already completed Algebra I and Geometry, and your last math teacher recommended you for this challenge — so you’re ready for it! Let’s lock in and do this!
ENDGAME
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them strategically.
Explain ideas using precise and contextually appropriate mathematical language, tools, and models.
Demonstrate a deep and flexible conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas, operations, and relationships while making real-world connections.
Use critical thinking skills to reason both abstractly and quantitatively.
Identify and apply regularity in repeated reasoning to make generalizations.

MATH JOURNEY ROADMAP
Please note that the total days indicated below for each unit includes (1) day for assessment review and (1) day for the unit assessment.
UNIT UNIT NAME TOTAL DAYS
1 Linear Functions and Systems 11
2 Quadratic Functions and Equations 11
3 Polynomial Functions 15
4 Rational Functions 11
5 Rational Exponents & Radical Functions 9
6 Exponential Functions 8
7 Trigonometric Functions and Matrices 9
8 Probability 11
This timeline is not set in stone—we will adjust as we go to make sure everyone gets what they need to succeed. That might mean adding, skipping, or swapping topics depending on how the class is doing. Near the end of the semester, we will have built-in days to review for the final exam so you feel confident and ready to crush it.
MATH CLASS TOOLKIT
3-ring binder or dedicated section in a main 3-ring binder used for all classes
Savvas Algebra II Student Companion (workbook)
Notebook Paper and Graph Paper
Pencils and Erasers…or Erasable Pens
TI-84 Graphing Calculator (Having and bringing your own calculator to class is highly recommended – however, if that is not possible, there will be calculators in class for you to use)
HOW WE ROLL
This class is all about building a positive, supportive community. We are going to respect each other’s opinions, thoughts, and ideas — even if we don’t always agree. We will also follow all Eastside High School rules as outlined in the EHS Student Handbook.
Be Punctual. (Be on time.)
Be Prepared. (Bring your stuff!)
Be Polite. (Kind to all!)
Be Positive. (Look for the good.)
Be Respectful. (Think before you speak!)
Work Hard (Complete assignments to the best of your ability.)
Cell Phones/Headphones– not permitted during class for any reason. (Their rule, not mine.)
GRADING GAME PLAN
Each quarter’s grade is calculated as shown below. Please not that this grading scale is standard of Greenville County Schools.
Major Assessments (Tests and Projects) 60%
Minor Assessments (Quizzes) 30%
Minor Assessments (Homework) 10%
The final grade will be calculated as show below.
A 100 - 90
B 80 - 89
C 70 - 79
D 60 - 69
F < 60
For each semester, each quarter will count for 45% of the semester's grade, while the final exam will count for the remaining 10% of that semester's grade.
EXTRA HELP FOR WHEN YOU NEED IT
I will make myself available for extra help on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM…when scheduled. That means, arrange it with me, either in person or confirmed via email, on the school day before (at the latest).
