Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year!
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Hughes Academy! I’m Dr. Sonya Campbell, and I’m excited to begin my third year as part of the Multilingual (ESOL) Program. It is a privilege to continue working with our amazing multilingual learners and their families as we embark on another year of growth, learning, and success.
Over the past two years, I have enjoyed getting to know our students, celebrating their accomplishments, and helping them develop both their English language skills and academic confidence. I look forward to building on those experiences and creating another year filled with engaging learning opportunities, meaningful connections, and student achievement.
Originally from Missouri, I have proudly called South Carolina home for the past 13 years. My husband and I relocated here after his retirement from the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood. I earned my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Saint Louis University, along with an Education Specialist degree, and I remain passionate about providing a supportive, inclusive classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling and exploring new places, making memories with our three energetic fur babies—TJ, LA, and LuLu—and relaxing with a good book.
I believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success. I look forward to working closely with you throughout the year to encourage academic growth, celebrate each student's unique strengths and culture, and help every learner reach their full potential.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child's educational journey. I am excited for all that this school year will bring, and I can't wait to see what we accomplish together!
Here's to a wonderful 2026–2027 school year filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities!
Warm regards,
Dr. Sonya Campbell
