Experience
My name is Desireé Mote. This is my eleventh year as a teacher in South Carolina and my fifth year in Greenville County School District. Prior to my time in GCSD, I taught in Charleston County as a World History and World Geography teacher where I served as Social Studies Department Head and 7th Grade Team Lead at Zucker Middle School of Science. Before teaching middle school, I taught Psychology and Sociology at Cane Bay High School in Berkeley County.
While in Charleston County I wrote curriculum for the new 7th Grade World Geography Standards, acted as a SC Certified Mentor for many teachers new to the profession, and served as ZMS 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year. I am also a 2017 recipient of the Henry & Sylvia Yaschik Service Above Self Award. Between the 2023 and 2025 school years I've taught AP Human Georgaphy to 165 scholars here at WHHS. Of those scholars, 100% met school standards with a B or higher for the course, greatly improving their GPA and class standing. 133 of those scholars went on went on to earn College Board credit!
I am a proud Greenville native who attended Blythe Academy of Languages, Hughes Middle School, and Greenville Senior High. In my downtime I enjoy reading, hiking, practicing yoga, relaxing with my family and friends, and walking my sweet puppy, Pablo.
