I have been teaching for several years now. I started my teaching career in private education at a military academy. This is my twelfth year teaching at Berea High School. Every person should have a list of five living heroes. Mine are Jesus Christ, Dad, Bob Dylan, Dave Eggers and Josh Allen. Although cliché, the saying is true, "behind every good man is a better woman." I love my savior, my wife, my daughter, my dad, my family, my friends, reading, writing, music, Notre Dame, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Cubs, poetry, traveling, golf, South Carolina Gamecocks and working with students. My wife and I welcomed our daughter, Thompson Elizabeth, nearly six years ago. Of the many joys I have known in life, there is none greater than her. She loves music, dancing, listening to me play guitar and smiles more than anyone I know. Thompson has recently started playing golf and playing guitar with me. She's a bright young girl!
In my classroom, students will be challenged to become better readers and writers, but above all, they will be challenged to become better thinkers. One of the greatest flaws in the educational system is the lack of focus on independent thinking. The pursuit of heightened logic and rhetoric should be a continuous goal of every individual, and it remains the major focal point of all the classes I teach. Students will have an opportunity to display their knowledge in a variety of ways. Students will use multiple intelligences, write essays, do research, present projects individually and in groups throughout the course. I look forward to our investigation of literature, language and life!
