We want our classroom to be a welcoming environment were everyone can learn. Here is how we accomplish this:
Beginning Class - You should enter the classroom with all of your materials and go directly and quietly to your assigned seat. Materials will be listed on the board. Place your book bags/personal items under your table so that it allows for walking between the rows.
What to do first in class -
Homeroom- Each day, students will check the board for the day's agenda that reflects the activities they should be working on during this time. We will have activities that may be done independently, as a class, or small groups. Each day will have designated topics. Students can always be working in ALEKS, No Red Ink, and finishing any work they may not have finished in class before the start of Lab time at 8:35.
For math: Spiral Review Warm-ups - Students will work on completing daily spiral review questions every class period. On Fridays, students will take a quiz, based on the questions from the week, for a minor grade. Students should begin working on the spiral review questions as soon as they are seated.
Bathroom/Nurse Passes – Students will always ask before going to the restroom or the nurse. During the class period, students will use SmartPass located in BackPack. Students begin a pass before they leave and end the pass when they return. Try not to leave during times when I am giving instructions or conducting a lesson! Independent work time is the best time to use the restroom so that you do not miss valuable instruction time.
Behavior - Proper behavior is expected at all times. Horseplay and misbehavior is not allowed. Keep your hands to yourself at all times!
Cell Phones - Should be turned off and not be visible during any part of the school day.
Earbuds - Students are only allowed to use plugin earbuds when directed by the teacher to complete an activity in class. Wireless earbuds are not to be used on campus .
Drinks – You may drink water in class. Water bottles should have a spill proof lid. Liquids should never be placed on surfaces with Chromebooks. For example, water bottles cannot be placed on desks, but need to be placed on the floor. Glass containers are NOT allowed. All spills must be cleaned by the student in order for this privilege to continue.
If the class room phone should ring – Please remain quiet during the phone call.
Food/Drinks–
You may drink water in class.
Water bottles should have a spill proof lid.
Liquids should never be placed on surfaces with chrome books. For example, water bottles cannot be placed on desks, but need to be placed on the floor.
Glass containers are NOT allowed.
All trash and spills must be cleaned by the student in order for this privilege to continue.
Leaving the Room as a Class – Occasionally, we will leave the room as a class. In the hallways, we will travel SILENTLY and SINGLE-FILE with your right shoulder toward the wall.
Lunch –
In the hallway, you will be silent and single file.
We will eat lunch with our 5th period class.
If you have lunch detention, you will get in the front of the lunch line. You will report to the designated area. Talking is NOT allowed during lunch detention.
To use the restroom during lunch, ask for the bathroom pass from the teachers' lunch table. If all passes are out, you will have to wait until another student returns.
Moving in the Hallway - The main hallway is often referred to as "the shared learning zone." Students are expected to be quiet as soon as they leave the 6th grade hallway as there are other classes taking place. All students will remain on the right side of the hallway.
Passing in your Work –
Make 100% sure that your paper is labeled with your name, date, and class period. Work without a name cannot be graded.
Work should be turned in to the designated class box.
Makeup Work –
Per school policy, all makeup work for excused absences is due within 5 days of return to school.
On the day you return, it is your responsibility to make sure to ask for any missing material.
When you have completed the missing assignments, please turn them in to me.
If it is an electronic assignment, you must email the teacher that the assignment has been submitted.
Questions – Students should raise their hands and be called upon prior to speaking. Only one person should speak at a time. Please, ask questions. It is the best way to learn!
Taking a Test –
During a test, talking is NOT allowed.
Talking will be considered cheating and will result in a GFA and parent contact.
Passing notes during a test or test period will also be considered cheating.
When announced in advance, tests are due the day you return from an absence.
Test Retake Policy-
No retakes on minor assessments.
Test retakes are allowed for major assessments, and the highest grade will be recorded.
No minimum grade requirement for test retakes.
Student retakes are not required; however, if the student wishes to retake the major assessment they need to follow the following steps. Student needs to notify the teacher of the desire to retake the assessment. Retakes need to be done within one week of the first attempt grades being released. Retakes will take place in the classroom during a scheduled time. Retakes may also occur during a lab time session which is listed as 1st Period Study Hall on the schedule.
Tardy - You are considered tardy if you are not in your assigned seat before the classroom door is closed by the teacher. Tardies will result in a step on the behavior matrix.
Toys/Fidget Spinners - Items that cause motion and noise in class are a disruption to the learning environment. They are not permitted in the classroom at any time. If these items are out during class, the teacher will remove them from the student. The student may return at the end of the day to retrieve their item. If this becomes an incident that occurs on multiple occasions, further behavior consequences will be discussed.
Trash – Please make sure to place all trash in the trash cans. It is everyone's responsibility to help keep our classroom looking nice.
Visitors – If class is interrupted by a visitor, students are expected to continue working quietly on assignments or notes. This is NOT an opportunity for you to talk or get out of your seats.
When you Finish Early – When you finish an assignment early, you can work on ALEKS, or the extra assignment for the topic we are working on!
