Desiree Ellenwood is a School Mental Health Counselor who has been serving students at Northwest Middle School since 2021. She holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Georgia, where she also minored in Human Development and Family Science. From 2012 to 2016, Desiree played Division I volleyball for UGA, an experience that deepened her passion for teamwork, resilience, and student well-being. In her role, she provides individual and group counseling, family therapy, assessment services, crisis management, and early intervention to support students dealing with ADHD, anxiety, depression, social skills challenges, anger, mood disorders, and trauma. Her approach is trauma-informed, student-centered, and grounded in family systems to foster emotional growth and resilience.
Outside of work, Desiree enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children—a son and a daughter—and their dog, Baxter. She loves traveling, trying new foods, listening to music, and staying active by playing and watching sports. Desiree brings warmth, empathy, and a deep commitment to fostering strong connections, helping students and families navigate challenges and thrive together.
