Course Description:
The physical education curriculum is designed to integrate fitness/health throughout the student’s physical education experience. Students will participate in cardiorespiratory activities, muscular endurance activities, strength endurance activities, and a variety of sport activities. In addition, students will learn various rules and relevant facts concerning many of these activities such as frisbee, basketball, volleyball, flag football, kickball, aerobics and weight training. Themes of sportsmanship and respect for others will be interwoven throughout the activities. The Middle school physical education program is designed as a prerequisite for high school physical education. There will be a heavy emphasis on conditioning before students participate in the national “Fitness Gram” test as required by the State Department of Education.

Learning Objectives and Developmental Goals
A general goal for all physical education classes is for all students to become confident of their own abilities: develop personal physical fitness skills, gain knowledge of healthy lifestyles and apply these skills throughout their lives so that they may be healthy and productive adults.
At the completion of a physical education class, our students will:
1. Experience personal success in physical education.
2. Participate in a Fitness Test and relate scores to norm standards.
3. Gain an understanding of the importance of their physical fitness level and the role it plays throughout their lives.
4. Improve individual sport and fitness skills.
5. Have records of their personal fitness goals and successes.
6. Gain knowledge of sport rules and strategies so that they may participate and enjoy sports activities.
7. Develop sportsmanship and teamwork skills.
8. Improve overall personal fitness levels.

Late policy: Teachers will accept late work with no penalty to the student up to 7 days after the original due date or the end of the grading period, whichever comes first.

Retake/Redo/Revise Expectations
Since the goal is for students to master content and skills, students will be allowed to retake/redo major tests only; however, students must commit to doing their part in preparing for the re-test. Students must initiate the request to retake/redo a test within 5 days of receiving the grade on the test. Students are allowed to retake/redo a major test one time. The student must complete a BRMS Request to Retest form, which can be found in the teacher’s Google classroom, and submit the form to the teacher. The form must be signed by the parent and student prior to being submitted. Following a re-test, the higher grade will be recorded in the grade book.

Make-up Work Policies: It is the responsibility of each student to inquire about make-up work upon returning from an absence. Students must also check google classroom for classwork and homework information for any days missed.
**Student Backpack is an essential tool for accessing grades. Google Classroom will be your greatest asset for staying up to date.

Respect: Be respectful to yourself, other students, and your teachers at all times. Follow the directions and stay on task. Participation in class is expected every day.
Food, drink, phones, and GUM are NOT permitted during PE class.
Organization: Bring or wear your tennis shoes each day. If you are dressing out, have your clothes with you. You will have 3 minutes to dress before stretches. During the health/sex education unit, have your chromebook each day.
Attitude: Give your best effort every day and support your classmates. Your success will be determined by the effort you put in! Always use kind words and be helpful to others.
Responsibility: Place your bag in the hallway and be in your gym exercise spot on time for attendance. Stretches will begin on the first whistle. Use the restroom, and get water before arriving to class.
Be sure to complete all of your work and give your very best effort, every day, to ensure you are achieving your PE goals. Before you act, stop to think if you are making a smart choice. Listen actively in class and always be honest with yourself and others.
Safety
Students will be excused from physical activities with a doctor or parent note stating an exact reason for the excuse. A parent note will only be accepted for a 2 day period, after which a doctor's note will be required. A doctor’s note is required for a student to return to active participation.
We will perform the following emergency drills during the course of the semester: Fire drill, Hurricane/Tornado, lockdown, lockout.
Dress Out Information
-Tennis Shoes Are a Must Daily-- flip flops, slides, Crocs and boots are not to be worn for safety reasons! If you don’t wear tennis shoes to school that day, you need to put them in your bag to bring to school.
- Dressing out is NOT required and students have the option each day. Some days will be more active than others.
-A comfortable t-shirt and/or school length shorts or athletic pants can be worn during PE class.
