Course Description:

Physical Education attempts to harness this natural and basic drive for activity and to direct the pupil’s energies into appropriate channels of learning. Through a purposefully planned activity program, physical education aims to provide maximum opportunity for the physical, mental, emotional, and social development of all youth while learning to respect and understand the many differences between them.


Objectives/Long Range Plan:

The students will be exposed to experiences, which may:

*Increase strength, endurance

*Improve agility, balance, coordination and flexibility

*Achieve a satisfactory level of performance in basic action

*Enjoy physical education as a means of self-expression

*Compete with others at his or her own level of ability

*Develop the desire for a healthy body

*Gain information and understanding of healthful living

*Relate and apply learning’s to home and community

Standards – State standards for health and physical education are used in planning units and lessons. Standards can be found in the classroom and on the district’s website.


Classroom Rules and Expectations:

Students should:

1. Have tennis shoes for Physical Education participation.

2. DO NOT GO IN LOCKER ROOM unless given permission. (2 person maximum)

3. No gum or candy allowed. No Foreign objects in their Mouth.

4. Students will not be permitted to use profanity, backtalk, or bully others without consequences.

5. Do Not climb up on closed bleachers!!

6. No one is allowed in the offices or equipment room without permission.

7. Students are expected to listen, cooperate and participate.

8. A doctor’s note is required to be excused from activity. Parent notes will be handled on a case by case basis.

9. Students not participating due to:

-Medical Reasons: will fulfill responsibilities as a teacher assistant and/or written assignment.

-Personal choice: will have points deducted and walk during class.


BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS:

1st offense-Warning (verbally calling the student's name and telling them to stop the behavior)

2nd offense-Name on board (telling the student that you are giving him/her another warning, you can write their name on the board, a clipboard, and the next step you will be calling their parent/guardian)

3rd offense-Call parent (contact parent/guardian)

4th offense-Call front office for administrator

* UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS *

1. TENNIS SHOES ARE A MUST.

2. STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR COMFORTABLE LOOSE CLOTHING FOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WHILE ADHERING TO SCHOOL DRESS CODE.

3. WE WILL NOT USE THE LOCKER ROOM TO CHANGE CLOTHES DUE TO COVID GUIDELINES.


Educational Statement - Welcome and welcome back! My name is Coach Elliott and I’ll be the boys PE and Health Teacher this year. I graduated from Lander University with a degree in Exercise Science. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, students and parents. I’m excited to start this great year.
