Before becoming a literacy specialist, I began my teaching career teaching first grade and later became a reading intervention teacher.
I grew up in Laurens and graduated with a BS in Early Childhood Education from Erskine College. I later went on to earn a Master's Degree from the University of South Carolina in Language and Literacy and an additional Master's Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. I am certified in Reading Recovery through Clemson University and have my Read to Succeed endorsement as a Literacy Teacher and Coach.
I am married to a wonderful husband and we have 2 daughters who keep us very busy. In my spare time I love baking, painting, shopping, and spending time with my family.
Literacy is my passion and I enjoy sharing it with children and adults. I am a strong advocate for inclusive practices and believe that ALL children can learn and be successful given the right opportunities and support. As the Literacy Specialist, I wear several different hats during the school day. Part of my time is spent working with students who need additional support in reading and writing instruction and the other part is spent working with teachers and supporting their literacy needs. I am so excited to be a part of the Oakview team and am looking forward to another great school year!
