Course Description
This syllabus is a general guide to the conditions and expectations of English 4 CP. All units are designed to meet multiple state standards simultaneously. Units will be augmented by journal writing and vocabulary study as well as in-class writing assignments, selection review, and discussion of the text. Specific details will be provided at the beginning of each unit.
Late / Missing Work
If a student does not complete a major assignment within the five days after the due date, receives a score below passing, or is caught plagiarizing (cheating, AI, or unoriginal work), they will have the option to complete the major assignment for no more than 50% credit.
If a student wants to earn an additional 10% to get a grade up to a passing score, they must complete a corresponding packet to prove their understanding of the unit’s focus.
If a student is absent and misses in class work (minors), they must complete within five days of the due date to earn any credit.
If a student is present in class during a minor assignment and chooses not to complete or participate, they will receive a zero that cannot be made up.
Reading Assignments
Textbook: We are reading a play, novella, short stories, excerpts from literature, and poems.

Course Outcomes
By their senior year, students should be able to think critically about ideas and then present their conclusions in a clear and well-organized composition. Twelfth grade writing objectives will include: Using the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) when writing an essay. We will cover writing skills for narrative, expository, informational, research, and argumentative writing.
Grading
Evaluations consist of classwork assignments,unit tests, comprehension quizzes,vocabulary quizzes,and various writing assignments,with research emphasis. All students will be expected to complete all coursework in accordance with WHS & GCS Policy. Make-up work for excused absences will always be accommodated. Students’ progress is reported as a grade based the Greenville County Grading Scale: 100-90% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 59-0% = F

Majors
Research complete works cited paper for their research. Complete it in MLA format with resources and in-text citations.
Career Presentation: Students will begin thinking about and preparing for careers that they may be interested in pursuing, including information about the job description, expected pay, education, and training necessary, and job projection. If possible, they will interview a person currently in that position. If that is not possible, they will use research methods to retrieve the necessary information. Then, they will present a visual presentation to the class either in person or on video.

Major It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices and accomplishments of the past, and on the hope, excitement, and responsibility of the future. Write a speech given to your graduating class.
Final Exam:
Final Portfolio Google Site that showcases all of the work they have accomplished during the semester. They will also have their final writing assignment which will be a reflective writing piece that expresses how they have grown through the semester because of these activities or experiences and “Where am I going”.
