Current Project: "Soap, Soap Everywhere"

Throughout the semester students will be working to develop their own soap company as a class. Students will use their knowledge gained about chemistry to develop a soap that meets the needs of their community. After creating their soap, students will work to develop a brand and then sell the soap to raise money for the less fortunate in their local community. This will be a lengthy project, but we will be breaking down each component of the process into smaller benchmarks.

Current Benchmark: How many moles are in our soap?

Students will create their best bar of soap by using their results from the previous experiments to determine the best ratio of oils. Then students will calculate how many moles of different compounds, especially lye, are in their bars of soap.
