Hey there! I’m Dr. Todd Burnett—born and raised in Greenville, SC, and somehow still just as fired up about education as I was on day one (well... after my morning Coke-Cola). I’ve spent the past twelve years in education—eight at Woodmont Middle, four at Hillcrest High—and now I’m excited to kick off a new adventure at Greenville High School.
Now, I didn’t exactly take the express lane to teaching. I started out with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing, ready to conquer the professional world… but let’s just say the world had other plans. I never really landed in a traditional office job. Instead, I bounced around—loading trucks in shipping warehouses, flipping steaks in restaurant kitchens, and doing a whole lot of “figuring things out.” After the 2008 crash, I lost my job in late 2010 and ended up working as a school custodian. Funny enough, that’s where everything clicked. Watching teachers connect with students and seeing the impact they had every day made me think, “Hey… maybe this is where I’m supposed to be.” Somewhere between the grease stains and the floor wax, I realized helping students figure out life was way more fulfilling. So I traded in the tools for textbooks.
By fall of 2013, I had my own classroom, a whole lot of ideas, and maybe a few nerves. Since then, I’ve picked up a Master’s in Education, emphasis in Administration, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Assessment—because once I found my calling, I decided to go all in (because why stop at two degrees when you can collect three?). I’ve been all about creating a classroom where students feel seen, supported, and maybe even laugh a little while they learn.
So now it’s year 13. New school, new faces, same mission: teach with purpose, grow alongside my students, and keep things real, relevant, and just a little ridiculous when the moment calls for it.
Let’s go, GHS!
