Dear Students,
This is my 23rd year teaching 8th grade English at Hillcrest Middle School. My undergraduate degree in secondary English is from Clemson University. I have a Master's degree in middle-level English from Furman University, National Board Certification in young adult English/Language Arts, and a Doctoral degree in leadership from Converse University. (In a nutshell, I'm pretty qualified to teach you English.) I was also a dance teacher for 32 years. Some other interests of mine are psychology and law, so I find ways to subject you to elements from those fields in addition to teaching you to write and analyze literature well. Because of my background in dance, I care about speaking and performance skills, so one of my additional goals for the year is to make you fearless in front of an audience. I put forth extreme effort to keep class from being boring, mostly because I don't want to be bored any more than you do. That doesn't mean you will never be bored, but know that I gave it my best shot. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year, and I wish you the very best 8th-grade year you can possibly have.
Sincerely,
Dr. Catherine Adams
