Originally from Greer, SC, Ben Campbell has always had a passion surrounding music and sharing it with others that was inspired by his own high school band director, Jeff Norman. He has had the privilege of performing at a variety of events ranging from the South Carolina Jazz Festival in Cheraw, SC to the New York Sounds of Spring International Music Festival at Carnegie Hall and he aspires to bring similar performance opportunities and personal growth to his students here at Wade Hampton.Â
Mr. Campbell began his teaching career at Newberry Middle School in Newberry, SC after receiving his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Winthrop University. After his time in Newberry, Mr. Campbell attended Texas Tech University to receive his Master of Music Education degree. While at Texas Tech, he conducted research surrounding Culturally Relevant Pedagogy in the instruction of secondary level ensembles and co-presented a session at the 2023 South Carolina Music Educators Association professional development conference. Mr. Campbell then taught general music and band in Austin, Texas before returning to South Carolina to teach at Wade Hampton.
In addition to maintaining professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA), South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, and Phi Kappa Phi, Mr. Campbell enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with his loved ones.
