School counselors are certified and specially trained educators who support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students. In elementary schools, their primary role is to help children build the foundational skills they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
A school counselor’s work is multifaceted. We guide, teach, encourage, and lead as needed. Sometimes you’ll find us with a student in an individual counseling session, or teaching a classroom lesson about emotional literacy, career education, or problem solving skills. Or, you may find us spending time supporting students with behavioral needs, fostering relationships, or assisting in academic achievement. We work hard every day to ensure each of our students are set up for success not only academically, but socially, emotionally, and psychologically. Taking a “whole child” approach and addressing overall wellness, we recognize the significance, benefit, and advantage to maintaining a healthy balance between each of these domains.
