How does my child register for middle school?
Your child is automatically registered for a certain middle school based on your address. Parents don’t need to contact the middle school to register if your child is attending the school they are zoned for. If you are applying for special permission or magnet academies, your process will be different. To check where your child is zoned for based on your address, visit: https://public.greenville.k12.sc.us/GeoAddress.aspx.
How can we plan ahead?
Before registration begins, you can preview the courses your child’s middle school will offer. This may help you and your child make more informed decisions about your selections. This online catalog will be launched with accurate information in February. https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/Parents/main.asp?titleid=catalogs
Do middle schools have tours or curriculum nights?
*Dates are subject to change*
Northwood’s curriculum night: Date TBD
Riverside's curriculum night: Date TBD
How will my child choose courses?
Classroom teachers recommend math and language arts courses based on set criteria. These may include: teacher recommendation, SC Ready scores, course grades. There are NO parent overrides for Math and ELA courses. All 6th graders take the same level of science and social studies courses.
In February, your child will receive a REGISTRATION WORKSHEET. You will help them complete this worksheet to select their requests for elective courses, and return it to school so that we can help your child submit their requests.
Later in the Spring, students will come home with a COURSE REQUEST LETTER. This is a copy of what your child is REQUESTING to take. No guarantees are made for elective courses. This is the last opportunity for parents to make changes by writing them on the letters (Changes can only be made to ELECTIVE course requests). Parents need to sign and return these letters to school with their child to be sent to the middle schools.
What are the registration dates?
Between the end of February and the start of March, Ms. Day and Ms. Pfeiffer will meet with students to register for 6th grade courses. You will receive a printed copy of your child’s selections (Student Course Request Letter) in March. You can also view information in Parent Backpack or Student Backpack.

What if we are registered somewhere else?
If you already know your student will attend a school other than Northwood or Riverside, please review the course catalog, open house dates, and contacts of the school where your child will attend next year. If you are awaiting information about placement in a magnet, private, or charter middle school, we will register your child for the public school they are zoned to attend.
If you do not have access to the internet, please contact us or your child’s teacher ASAP. We can print a paper copy of the middle school course catalog for you to review.
