Building Construction Syllabus
Course Description:
Building Construction is a two year program with an optional third year Work Based Learning program available for those students who qualify. This program prepares individuals to enter the Building Construction Trades. We cover all facets of Construction from site selection and preparation to finishing. Second year students will cover Building sciences in greater detail and concentrate on specific areas of interest. This course will provide students with an OSHA approved OSHA 10 credential which is useful not only for the skilled trades but sought after for virtually any traditional hands on position.
Expectations and Goals:
Academic testing is conducted for each section of study and Quizzes are administered at Quarterly and Semester breaks as well as Exam at year end. Each daily lesson is accompanied by a question designed to monitor student involvement as well as measure mastery of that day’s subject matter.
Students should have a strong understanding of Math, Science, and Physics.
Classroom Expectations:
Donaldson Career Center is a Cell Phone Free facility and students will be expected to honor School rules. Students will be expected to be respectful of themselves and others as well as their property as well as school property. Cursing and coarse language is not tolerated and horseplay can be fatal in this environment so it will be met with an immediate reprimand and corrective action.
Evaluation and Grading:
Grading is accomplished through GCSD sanctioned standards and is an accumulation of assignment accuracy in the classroom coupled with engagement and safe hands-on skill demonstrated in the shop. First Quarter and semester Quizzes are weighted higher than daily testing and the final exam is weighted heaviest.
Donaldson Career Center follows Greenville County School District grading scale.
