My name is Betsy Shuler, and I am excited to be back at Alexander teaching reading to 5th graders! I have taught in Greenville County for 28 years. The first 27 years were spent at Oakview Elementary as a resource teacher (4 years), 5th grade teacher (22 years), and a reading interventionist (1 year). I joined the Alexander staff in 2024.
I was born and raised in Connecticut, and my parents still reside there. I have three brothers, one older and two younger. I have lived in Greenville for 32 years. I came here to attend Furman University as an undergraduate. I graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts (major: elementary education). I returned to Furman in 1997 to begin work on my masters. I received my Master of Arts (concentration: learning disabilities) in 2000. I renewed my National Board Certification last year. I finished my second Master of Arts (concentration: literacy coaching) in May of 2022.
My husband, Mike, is a local restaurateur. We own Smoke on the Water on Greenville's Eastside. We have two beautiful children, Blakely (15) and Logan (13). Blakely is in 10th grade at Riverside High School, and Logan is an 8th grader at Riverside Middle.
I am looking forward to a great year!
